Moving Day | Our top tips to make moving day as stress free as possible

Moving day is finally here, and after months of excitement and preparation – the big day can still sometimes become somewhat overwhelming. However, with some mindful planning, you can help keep it as smooth and stress-free as possible. Here, we share some useful tips ahead of move day to help you stay organised and in control:

1. Day-Before Preparation:

Pack an Essentials Bag:

Toiletries, phone chargers, snacks, water, medication, change of clothes, important documents and tools.

Label Everything Clearly:

Use color-coded labels by room (e.g., red = kitchen), and mark “Fragile” or “Open First” boxes. This will help make the unpacking process at the other end much simpler and organised as you/ the removal team will know exactly where each box needs to go and which boxes have your daily essentials.

Confirm Details:

Double-check moving teams arrival time, when you can collect the keys (if you don’t have them already), planned route, any restrictions such as a lift, tight stair case, narrow doors etc that need to considered for the day.

2. Moving Day Tips

Start Early:

Give yourself extra time for last-minute packing or unexpected delays. You don’t need any added stress on the day by running behind schedule if possible.

Protect the Floors:

Use mats or old blankets to protect floors from scuffs or dirt.

Do a Final Walkthrough:

Check all rooms, wardrobes, drawers, garage, and loft space to make sure nothing is left behind.

Keep Valuables With You:

It is strongly recommended that you don't put jewellery, passports, or laptops on the moving vehicles. That way, you know where they are and can minimise the risk of them getting lost or going missing.

Take Photos:

If applicable, document the condition of your old house/ apartment and your belongings for rental or moving insurance claims. This ensures that everything is evidenced if needed further down the line.

3. At the New Place

Clean Before Unpacking:

Wipe down surfaces and clean floors before setting up. This can often get overlooked as the excitement and time pressure of unpacking takes over, but in the long run – this will save you time.

Set Up Bed First:

You’ll thank yourself when you're exhausted later and can get straight into bed!

Unpack Essentials First:

Bathroom, kitchen basics, and a few clothes should be the priority and having these items to hand in the first instance is hugely advantageous.

Check Utilities:

Confirm water, electricity, gas, and internet are all functioning correctly as you will need them.
Change Locks (if necessary):

For safety, consider replacing door locks or rekeying.

Extra Tips!

•    Keep children/pets occupied: Have a sitter or set up a safe space for them.
•    Stay hydrated & fed: Don’t forget to take breaks and eat—moving burns energy fast.
•    Be flexible: Things will go wrong. Keep a calm, problem-solving mindset. Remember, it will all be worth it in the end.
